Welcome To Uncover Volusia County
Communities seldom thrive without individuals who are willing to donate their time and resources to improve them. There are countless people like this out there, without an accessible, easy way for them to connect to worthy causes.
Uncover KC (UKC), a Kansas City-based nonprofit, helps other nonprofits make a profound impact on their community by ensuring that these individuals find the right volunteer role.
“One of the things we do exceptionally well is match volunteers with organizations based on need, skill, and the desire to serve,” said Brent Lager, Founder and President of UKC. “It can be hard to find those opportunities, so that’s where we come in. We are connectors. We bridge those who want to help to those who need it.”
Over the past 11 years, UKC’s team of dedicated staff and volunteers has worked hard to bring this vision to reality, connecting more than 83,000 volunteers to local nonprofits. Those efforts resulted in over 237,000 hours of service being completed with a $6 million impact value. With this foundation of success in place, UKC is ready to spread its roots to the southeast coast with its first ever affiliate, Uncover Volusia County (UVC).
“In partnership with the Museum of Arts and Sciences (MOAS), we are revitalizing the volunteer community,” said Karina Tanner, Director of Volunteer Management for UVC. “Our methodology is simple. We’ve adopted the core UKC principles and combined that with passion and hard work. Our approach is grounded in finding, retaining, and recognizing volunteers to empower them. That’s how we make a difference.”
This revitalization isn’t just a lofty goal — it’s already happening. In just ten months, UVC has grown the MOAS volunteer program by over 300%, creating new volunteer positions that allow them to attract and retain a diverse group of volunteers.
For those familiar with UKC’s work, the results are no surprise. Tabitha Schmidt, Chief Executive Officer for MOAS, has seen the organization’s impact firsthand over the years.
“Volusia County is fortunate to have Uncover KC setting up a chapter in our area,” Schmidt said. “I worked with this organization when I was CEO of Powell Gardens, Kansas City’s botanical garden. This group works miracles when it comes to recruiting and managing volunteers. I highly recommend them!”
As UVC charges ahead in this new chapter, the call to action couldn’t be clearer: Volusia County residents have the chance to be part of a movement that will change their community for the better. Whether you’re a nonprofit seeking support or someone looking for a meaningful way to give back, now is the time to get involved.

“This is just the beginning of a new volunteer renaissance in Daytona Beach,” Tanner said, “and I’m excited to see the impact we will have on the local Volusia County community as a whole.”
